Barry F. Crosby | President and CEO
Barry joined Freedom Credit Union in 2003 and has 40 years of experience in the Financial Services Industry. He spent the first 19 years in Banking and the last 21 years have been as a Credit Union CEO. Barry currently serves as a Director and Treasurer of the Greater Springfield Convention and Visitors Bureau and is Chairman of the Board of Directors of the CCUF Charitable Foundation Trust. In addition, he is a member of the Public Relations and Development Committee of Cooley Dickinson Hospital in Northampton and is a statewide legislative counsel member for the Massachusetts Credit Union League.
Louis “Jay” Scungio | Senior Vice President and CFO
Jay joined the credit union in 1999 as the CFO and currently oversees the Accounting and Information Systems functions of the credit union. In 2004, he earned his MBA from Western New England College. Jay is a Board Member of the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Hampden County and the Country Club of Wilbraham.
Patricia E. Carbee | Vice President, Enterprise Risk Management
Pat joined the credit union in 2012 and has over 30 years of experience in the Finance industry, including expertise in regulatory auditing, compliance auditing, lending and management. At Freedom, she oversees the Risk Management program, the Compliance Department, Loan Litigation matters, Business Continuity, and Auditing functions. Pat has held a number of senior positions throughout her career. Most recently, she was an Auditor with New England Credit Union Services, LLC, a division of the Massachusetts Credit Union League, for 12 years. Carbee earned her Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Nichols College and graduated Cum Laude. She is also member of the Association of Credit Union Internal Auditors and the Massachusetts Bankers Internal Auditors Association.
Kara B. Herman | Vice President, Retail Administration
Kara joined Freedom in 2007 and has over 25 years of banking and credit union experience. She oversees the administration of the credit union’s nine branches as well as the Marketing and Business Development departments. In 2013, she earned her Certified Credit Union Executive designation through the Credit Union National Association (CUNA). Kara has a bachelor’s degree from Westfield State College and is a certified trainer through the American Society for Training and Development. She is a Board Member of the Pioneer Valley Chapter of the Massachusetts Credit Union League.
Karen C. Katsanos | Vice President, Human Resources
Karen joined the credit union in 2012 and has 20 years of HR experience in several industries including Health Care and Manufacturing. She has held a number of senior management positions throughout her career. Karen earned her Bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst and has earned two Master's degrees - one in Psychology from Westfield State College and the other in Business Administration from Western New England College. Karen holds an SPHR designation that she earned from the Human Resource Certification Institute. She is a board member for the Human Resource Management Association of Western New England and the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield.
Cheryl L. Podgorski | Vice President, Operations
Cheryl joined the credit union in 2012 and has over 26 years of operations experience in both the Banking and Credit Union industries, having held several senior management positions throughout her career. In addition to her responsibilities in the credit union's Operations Department, Cheryl has been managing the credit union's Loan Servicing Department for the past year. She earned her Master's degree in Business Administration from Western New England College and holds a Six Sigma Green Belt certification. Cheryl is a past Certified Treasury Professional through the Association for Financial Professionals.
Jeffrey M. Smith | Vice President and CLO
Jeff joined the credit union in 2013 and manages the Commercial, Mortgage and Consumer Lending functions of the credit union. He has 30 years of lending experience in the Financial Services industry and has held several senior management positions throughout his career, including his most recent position as Vice President at Florence Savings Bank. Jeff earned his MBA in Finance from Western New England University. He is currently President of the Northampton Rotary Club and is a member of the Realtor Association of Pioneer Valley. Since 1994, Jeff has been an instructor for the Center for Financial Training teaching courses on subjects such as real estate finance, marketing, accounting and analyzing financial statements.
